NT DHCP

By resmith ·
When changing DHCP options we have noticed that the client's settings will override the DHCP configuration.

EX: NT workstation has DNS server setting of 10.10.10.1. We modify the DHCP server to hand out 10.10.10.2. When the client workstation reboots, etc. it retains its old setting of 10.10.10.1. If the workstation doesn't have DNS settings, then it will use the new setting received from DHCP.

Is their a way to override possible client settings when using DHCP?

Generally, the answer is no. An explicit setting in TCP/IP properties will over-ride those from DHCP and that is by design.

If you have trouble with people messing with their desktops, two possible solutions are to either set desktop policies or run a Kixstart script at logon that would clean out the explicit settings. It is also possible to remotely edit the registry is there are just a few machines you have to fix and they are available across the network.
