Locked

NT Event viewer

By karl ·
I am considering writting a piece of software that will interigate the event viewer on several servers at the same time and return detailed reports from a search.

EG. check 3 servers for logon/logoff and lockout details.

I am in need of a detailed list of descriptions for event numbers for NT4, Win 2k & XP.

If anyone knows of a freeware package that already does this or has worked with the event viewer from Visual Basic and can help I will be very grateful.

Thankyou.

Best approach seems to use the WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) API's. They are freely available from MS and accessible from VB. And their doc includes the meaning of all event codes (and lots lots more - e.g. you could inquire full PerfMon details from the central location, lock out local user accounts etc. etc.).

Have fun,
