nt logon scripts/3rd party

By Joe crisino ·
I need a listing of what variable can be used in an NT logon script and if there is a way to select by a group for commands to be run. I need to have certain groups of users run certain commmands when they logon and I do not wnat other groups running those commands, is there something from microsoft or do I have to go with some third party software?

Couple options...

You can accomplish this by having different logon scripts and pointing each user account to the appropriate logon script (from the Profile tab in User Manager).

Or you can write a logon script that does something like this:
IF %username% = "thisuser" dothisprogram

Personally, I like the first option better. Either way, no additional tools are necessary.

Take a look at ScriptLogic ( http://www.scriptlogic.com/ ) We have been using this software for about 6 months, and have and it works very well to control login scripts by various groups. It has a lot of features, and is scalable to various environments. They have a demo version, and the per seat licensing is fairly inexpensive.
