NT removal and WIN98 Install

By Kamandi ·
Objective: To install WIN98 onto a pc that had NT on it.

FDISK was used to remove the primary partition and there is another partition that will not remove. This eats up 2gb of memory. I have tried to remove the other partition and it says that there are logical partitions. When I try to remove those logicals, the fdisk software says that there are not any logicals to remove.

Thanks in advance for any assistance that you can offer.

Mark

which FDISK?

Since WIN98 and NT don't use the same file system, you need to start with the version of FDISK from the 'NT' setup disk. This should allow you to remove ALL the (NTFS) partitions. Then go to the WIN98 disk to create the Primary partition, etc.

NT removal and Win98 Install

FDISK no used at all to remove with NT Partition because of NT is an NTFS, not A FAT as WIN95/98. To solve your problem, do the following:
First Solution:Begin with NT installation again that starting with the three disks again till you reach asking to format or " the format and Partiton Session".

Second Solution: Go to internet and sites "western digital.com or wd.com". So from this site you can download utilities software called "EZ Drive". After downloading copy to diskette in run on your PC. This utility will remove NT partition and create new partition, just go on and the instruction, then you can change later.

I hope it will help more..and you have it all needed.

Drive Partition

by philldmc In reply to NT removal and WIN98 Inst ...

If you place the Windows NT disk and boot off that you will come to an area to create or remove partitions. use Windows NT to delete the partitions. Remove both partitions once that is done reboot the machine without installing NT, no need to createa new partition, just delete the old ones. F3 twice will exit the installation. Now boot off your Win98 CD go to fdisk and you will only see one partition. With no partitions you will need to create one using your boot disk or your windows 98 cd
