NT Terminal Server alerter message error

By Old git Scribbs ·
Hi,

We are running NT Terminal server (sp4) with 10 servers a PDC & BDC. We use thin client dumb terminals for our users with non-static
ip addresses in the clients and a DHCP setup.

The 'Problem/irritation': At the same time per day the PDC & BDC send alerter messages to each of the terminal servers that their logon time is over. This is ok, except that at the same time all users still on the system receive the same message. An excellent way to get users off, but irratating for those who are entering data and have the alert appear in front of them.

Any ideas would be appreciated having looked already at the settings for the alerter service under control panel, server, alerter - only admin staff listed in there!!! Cheers Albs

Do you have logon time limits set up in the user's domain accounts? Just a guess.

NT Terminal Server alerter message error

Have located the problem under User Manager; Accounts Policy.

There is a tick box which when ticked 'Forcibly disconnects remote users from server when logon hours expire".

On terminal server all that happens when the logon hours are up, is the users mappings to the PDC are dropped and a message is sent from the PDC to the terminal server!!!??? A user can still use the terminal server because they are not logged out but cannot access their file areas if the file areas are on the same machine as the PDC, because of the dropped mappings.

My thanks to those who answered this question.
