NT Workstations Losing Domain rights

By G ·
I have a small number of machines (50) which connect to a local BDC on a remote site. The site is connected via a dedicated 128kbps leased line. Mysteriously, a workstation will lose it's domain rights. This has happened at random to most of the workstations so far, and appears to be at startup. To solve the immediate problem, we log into the machine with local admin rights and remove it from the domain and re-attach the machine to the domain.

All of these machines have been locked down andhave their security checked regularly, there is no way that the users have local admin rights to screw our settings.

There are no solutions in Technet on this problem.

Spec: NT4.0 SP5, Dell 350Mhz/64Mb, 3Com 10/100 NIC, 3Com 10Mhz Hub. BDC-Compaq 3000 NT4/SP5.

G...

Make sure that all the machines are all still present in the server manager !!

If they are make sure that the wkstns can see the PDC/BDC ... Try pinging them ...

If that doesnt solve your problem try reinstalling the Service Pack on top again !!

Hope this helps

The machines are present in Server Manager. The machine cannot connect to the network to get a ping. The service pack was installed on a clean system and no changes to the machine have been made since.

When you remove the machine from the domain, change the name of machine before introducing to domain. This will take care if uou have duplicate names also.

There are no duplicate names on the network.

what kind of replication are you using? is it possible that the PDC doesn't have the machines in it? so replication time. the BDC loses the machine name??
are the POL on your BDC? or back on the PDC?
and are the machines set to update it?
Good Luck,
just trying some suggestions..
