NT4 install new hotswap dives 18GB

By davew43boss ·
I have a HP LXPro server that has quad Pentium pro 200 MHZ processors. I have 12 drive bays and have 4 4.5GB drives, 3 9GB drives and am trying to install 3 18.2GB drives now. I want to move data to these new drives and get the 4.5gb drives off the system. I installed the drives with no luck of the server seeing them. What can I do. I tried rebooting to see if it picked up from the start and still no luck. I can see the light go on when I plug them into their hotswap connections. I need to be able to see these drives and place them in a strip set. I am running Raid 5 with software. Help

Contact the manufacturer of these drives. There are some hdd bioses that need to be flashed for use in hdd/raid towers.

You did not state the OS platform you are using, but I assume you are using Microsoft NOS. If you add a new hot swap HDD, you must either go to the netraid configuration setup to scan for all devices, add them to the appropriate SFT group or you maydo that with a Windows utility that comes with the server. you must also find out if your are using hardware RAID or software RAID, then act appropriately.

Please get back to me if you have problems.

If you are using a hardware RAID controller you usually need to reboot and run its configuration utility. This will allow you to initialize the drives. You probably also want to create at least container using the configuration utility too. Once initialized, the RAID controller will make them available for use. Reboot and use drive manager to partition and format the container(s).

If you are using a software RAID (not a good idea with that many drives) you should still reboot and use thecontroller's setup utility. Make sure the drives are recognized by the controller. Most controllers have some diagnostics you can run too.
