Obtaining my MX Record

By tlbuckingham ·
I have successfully be able to now host my own website from my home with a dynamic IP address (thanks to direct update and zoneedit). I am running Windows Server 2003 (was cheaper than Win2k plus the cost of Exchange Server) and use Comcast as my ISP. I can send out mail using my @mydomain.com but cannot receive it. Where would I obtain an MX Record from and how do I use it (if this is even the problem). Also I have opened up ports on my router to accept to my server 192.168.0.XXX (where the POP3 server is running).

Right now I have my MX Record in Zoneedit (zoneedit.com) set up server.envisionnetworking.net handles mail for envisionnetworking.net (Ranked to receive 1st).

Obtaining my MX Record

by JustAnAdmin In reply to Obtaining my MX Record

The MX record is created on zoneedit, very similar to the rest of the DNS set up. It should basically read (under the mail section) something like the following:

mail.mydomain.com (whatever server is handling mail) handles mail 1st for domain mydomain.com.

Make sure that the server you have specified, mail.mydomain.com in my example, is listed under your ip addresses with a valid server name and IP address.

Once you have that all configured, make sure you have opened ports 110 (pop3,assuming you are using it) and 25 (smtp).

That should really be all there is to it. I have a very similar set up myself.

Hope this helps! If you have more questions, be sure to post comments on here.

I was able to figure out. Thanks for a quick response. What I had to do was set the server.envisionnetworking.net to my external IP Address (same as with hosting my website).
