odbc connection

By tommymcbrayer ·
Here is my problem. I am trying to establish an odbc connection to a remote sql 2000 server and I can't. I am going from one network to another network. I can ping the server from my workstation. I can ping from the server to my workstation. I can also establish an odbc connection from the remote sql server to one of my localsql servers. I just can't connect to the remote sql server. I get a connection failed sql state 01000 sql server error 10060. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
it must be a BUG: SQL Server May Not Listen on TCP/IP Sockets When TCP/IP is the Only Protocol
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306865

or
FIX: RPC Clients Unable to Login to SQL Server with Windows Authentication

or
INF: TCP Ports Needed for Communication to SQL Server Through a Firewall

Success

If you're going through a firewall make sure that port 1433 is open. Maybe make sure it's open on their firewall if applicable also.

No firewall is between us. I think the problem is that they are patting their local addresses and that the translation is getting lost through the Cisco router when it is coming back to us.
