odbc connection

Here is my problem. I am trying to establish an odbc connection to a remote sql 2000 server and I can’t. I am going from one network to another network. I can ping the server from my workstation. I can ping from the server to my workstation. I can also establish an odbc connection from the remote sql server to one of my localsql servers. I just can’t connect to the remote sql server. I get a connection failed sql state 01000 sql server error 10060. Any help would be appreciated.
