Can odbc connections be established using winsock? Does ODBC have MS networking dependencies? Please share code samples.

ODBC over winsock

You CAN make ODBC connections over WinSock manually. It's preferable to use RPC calls. Since you're network protocol is probably TCP/IP, the communication will be happening over WinSock.

If you want to write your own ODBC-over-WinSock application, you'll not only have to manage the connections (listeners, responders, etc.), you'll probably also want to encrypt or otherwise secure the datastream of your SQL statements and results.

I would enclose code samples, but you didn't specify a language. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "ODBC having MS networking dependencies".
