OE on OSX 9.1 Mail Recovery

by lukerusselluk . Updated 18 years, 3 months ago

Anyone come across this before? Looking to recover or even restore mail from an old OSX 9.1 email archive.

I have a client using Outlook Express on OSX 9.1 who has archived their mail to a file called “Old Messages 1” which is 1.98 GB in size and resides within “\Documents\Microsoft User Data\Identities\Main Identity” and the client is now moving to a PC.

I need to recover the mail from this file to the extent that it can be imported into Outlook or at least back into Outlook Express on the original mac so that the client can refer to that for the info they need from the mail in that file.

The “Old Messages 1” file does not appear to be an mbx file which a lot of what I’ve found so far refers to.

I’ve also tried to rebuild the mailbox by holding ctrl (i think) as I open OE which seems to be what actually creates the “Old Messages 1” file – found that out after simple renaming “Old Messages 1” to “Messages”, which unfortunately did not allow the mail to load when opening OE.

I’ve tried a number of recovery programs which have worked wonders else where but not on this file. To be honest I’m not too familiar of the type of file it is so am having stabs in the dark at how to hand it.

Google has yeilded too much after several long stints at it, I expect at least someone here has come across a similar situation before (i hope!)

Luke
