OE6: Messages missing fm Inbox

By QN ·
Several hundreds of our email mssg fm Feb06 to 6 of July 06 are missing, some of these are very important mssg. Our last back-up was made on June 22, so we will still be missing messages fm June 22 to July 6. I have checked the deleted items folder and can confirm that it is not there. The messages in the sent folder seems to be intact. I am not sure if we have unintentionally selected an option that lead to the above mentioned scenario but I don't think so. Some people suggested that the emails could have been auto-archived but the strangest part is that our messages fm 2005 are still in the inbox. Also being a small company we do not have an IT department. Moreover we do not have our own server. Can someone help us here? Thanks in advance.

I would hazard a guess that somehow these messages have been accidentally erased or deleted. It's not a normal thing with OE and even if they where Archived they would still be present in the In Box as OE compresses the files when they reach a certain size but it doesn't delete them.

If you've had your E-Mail saved to a different directory than the default it's possible that the files are still there and that something has happened to the User Profile which has caused OE to default back to the original settings though this isn't likely it's possible but if that was the case I would expect all the e-mail to be missing not just some of the incoming. You can try doing a search for the following File Inbox.dbx and see if you find one other than at C:\Documents & Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Identifies\a number string\Microsoft\Outlook Express. If you can find another File called Inbox.dbx it's possible to import the files into your current version of OE by clicking on File then Import then E-Mail then OE6 select from Remote File Store and just try an import if you can find the file.

I wish you luck as I think that you are going to need it and if you have continued using the computer after these files went missing you have more than likely overwritten at the very least some of them so even using a Data Recovery Program will be ineffective.
