My copy of Office 2000 was working fine until I downloaded the latest O2K patches available from Microsoft’s website and installed them. After installing the patches, Office began to behave a little funny, so at first I tried using the Help menu’s “Detect and Repair” option. I got an error message, however, that read:
“The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installationpackage ‘510370.POWERPNT.msp’ in the box below.”
(My Office copy is running on my local PC’s hard drive, so I am not sure why it is bringing a network resource-related error message.) Anyway, since I have Windows Me, next I tried using System Restore to rollback Windows to before I installed the O2K update packages. Unfortunately, this did not appear to resolve the problem either. Finally, I tried using the “Add/Remove Programs” option under the Control Panel so that I could simply reinstall the software suite from my Office 2000 CD-ROM — but I got the same error message mentioned above, with the added message “The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.” (even though I had the CD-ROM in the drive). Also, running setup.exe from the Office 2000 CD-ROM (in an attempt to overwrite my messed-up O2K installation) generated the same error message and resulting added message.
At this point, I can run Office 2000 programs without any problems, but cannot either repair or remove (so that I could then reinstall) it. Is there any way I can remove and/or reinstall Office 2000?but without a clean reinstallation of Windows? If so, if you could please indicate how it would be deeply appreciated! (Please help!)
