Office 2003 on Vista - 'setup.ini missing or invalid'

By arism74 ·
Hi there,

I have been trying to install Office 2003 on an HP laptop that I've just bought that came with Vista pre-installed but I'm having problems. My (new) laptop cannot find some files in the CD that my (ancient) desktop (with XP SP2) can.

As soon as I try to begin installation, I get the message 'setup.ini missing or invalid' and in fact if I look at that location the folder 'setup' is empty - but when I put the CD in my desktop the file is there together with some other files which also do not appear on the Vista machine.

Anyone could help with this please?

If the laptop and the desktop are networked, install from the desktop optical drive.

On your Vista laptop, in Explorer, under Folder Options, do you have Hidden files and folders set to Show hidden files and folders? or Hide protected operating system files?
