If you visit the microsoft website you will discover that Office 2007 has been especially designed to work with Vista, previous versions of office will work with Vista but not necessarily on a fully functional level, that is to say that some features might not work, one in particular is that sometimes in outlook 2003 the email account passwords do not get saved.
Also it is worth remembering that documents created in office 2007 cannot be opened or edited in 2003 version,(I know some bright spark will tell you that you can save in 2003 format from 2007) but beleive me there are still formatting and display issues.
so it might be worth upgrading now

I have a user who has 2003 on a Vista machine. Have not heard any complaints yet.
