Office 2K apps hang when accessing any m

I have a new HP Pavilloin notebook. It was purchased with XP as the OS. Our standard OS is 2K and the product we sell has not been QA’ed in an XP environment so we must use 2K. HP won’t talk to me because we changed the OS, so I bring the problem here.

The Office apps are almost useless since most of the time they hang when we click on the menu bar. Other programs function fine, just the Microsoft Office 2000 Pro sp2 applications. One strange point: Outlook works OK. My thinking is there is some conflicting application or DLL. The basic install that I do is our normal but this guys uses some unique, in our company, software.

How can I best troubleshoot this problem? Anyone have any fixes for this?
