Office Xp

I have 2 issues with Office Xp.When we open a attachment the word doc goes into auto recovery. The email is coming from a user with Office 2000. It only may seem that it comes from this user. The second big problem I have is we upgraded to Office Xpon a few test stations and when you open public folders and then a expense statement the doc does not open at all.It shows odd characters like it is not picking up the macros in the doc.We have exchange 5.5 sp4.We are just testing XP and these are some problems I have no clue what the answers are.We did not have this problem with Office 2000.Any help would be great.
