old hardrive on a new computer

I am building a totally new computer exxcept for the harddrive which i am using from my old computer with xp on it. Can i just boot up everything up on the new computer with this harddrive... P.S....I am not a dummy but this is my first computer build...THANKS Danalmighty

The problem you're going to have is the system drivers. The current machine has all of the drivers needed for you current machine including Motherboard, Controllers, bus, etc. the new PC will be completly different. If you're lucky it will just BSOD a few times until it can figure out which drivers are right.

My sugestion would be to backup the data you want to save to another device, like a USB drive. Then put the drive in and reinstall the OS clean. Once thats done you can add the other apps back.

If you just put the drive in and go you'll have nothing but headaches.
