On Facebook, what are the differences between a Status and a Note?

By JADavis9 ·
I have only used the Status thing in the past and whenever I've gotten too wordy, it tells me and makes me trim it down to 420 characters (I think) or it offered to post it as a Note. I didn't have a clue what a Note was, so I always worked hard to trim it down to that 420 characters. And if I couldn't trim it down to 420 without losing something important, I would just post 420 and then add the rest as a Comment after I posted it.
But it would also offer me to Edit it as a Note. I just always declined that since I didn't have a clue what a Note was and had never done one.
But today I finally did one and now I am trying to learn how they work and what differences there may be with Statuses.
Are there any differences that I should know about? Maybe who sees Notes them? It looks like both show up in your News Feed that is put out to your Friends. Maybe who can add Comments or .....?
My daughter told me that Notes have a section on your Wall and so they can be easier to find since someone doesn't need to scroll way down to find them like they would to find a Status that you posted a long time ago.
So, is that the only difference?

I don't know why this has changed, but maybe it just changes by design after you have chosen to Edit/Enter one as a Note at least once. I dunno ....

status is on your news feed or right at the top on your profile page....you have to actually click on notes to write one and them "post" the note...so i'm not sure what you're doing

I'm not sure why you say that I must have "mistakenly posted a note". It was a really long Status "What's on your mind" and since it was over 420 characters, it was rejected as a Status.
So what am I mistaken about?

status is...what you're doing, thinking, etc....a note is anything...a short story, a bio if you wish (but that's what your info is for); and yes, there are character limits for you status....for example: "beach, anyone else game?" that's a status...what happened at the beach could turn into a note. Make sense?

I was confused for a bit about Status and Notes in Facebook

by JADavis9 In reply to On Facebook, what are the ...

I forgot that the limit is 420 characters for Statuses. For some reason, I had it in my mind that the limit was 160. So I posted one 165 characters long and it was accepted as a Status and I thought that it had just automatically taken it as a Note.
Oops! I was wrong about it all. It works just like it should.
