Online Banking using Ubuntu in Sun Virtual Box

By dhyler99 ·
I use Ubuntu OS in a Sun Virtual Box environment to do my online banking. Nothing else is installed in this VB other than Ubuntu and LastPass. When going to the Internet to do my online banking, the home page is my bank site and LastPass automatically logs me in. I use a separate LP account that is only for this purpose. When I check my accounts I open VB and when I am finished I close VB.

Question is this: Is this as safe method to use as a Live CD?

nope

automatic login is as unsafe as you can possibly get.

so Uubuntu, auto login of user, the password logger that is automatically logging you into the bank system both have created a critical security issue.

all it takes is someone else gainingg access to that virtual system and they would instantly HAVE FULL ACCESS TO YOUR BANKING DETAILS

What he said.

And the distribution or operating system doesn't matter. Ubuntu, other Linux distro, OS X, Windows, whatever; automatic login is unsecure regardless.

You don't need to resort to a live CD; just don't save the passwords. You'll have to remember them, but you'd have to do that with a Live CD too.

the distro does matter, you have to fight with Ubuntu to stop autologin [ but same goes for the other distros that autologin. ]

using any distro that doesn't autologin by default is much easier.

Yeah,

but auto-entering his banking credentials is a red flag either way.
