Are you a Killer? Try this. Exchange 5.5 SP2, NT 4.0 SP5, IMC conected to other server on other domain with Proxy 2.0 binded to the port 25. Used only for outbound mail with outlook 98. Anyone inside can send mail to anyone at anydomain (anyone@anydomain.com) successfully… but not for one specific Domain: specificdom.com, IMC reports “Host unreachable”, SMTP says “499 Host unreachable”, NSlookup can find the MX records for that domain and all the SMTP host there (Exchange servers I guess) respond to the ping command. No blockings at proxy and the smtp (client) outbound filter is enabled. Are you ready?

    Win the battle!

Can you telnet to the site ? try a telnet session to the SMTP port on the site your trying to reach. If you get connected try sending mail from the telnet session.

Sorry. It was a DNS bad configuration with my reverse lookup address. I was at a non-authoritative ISP for my in-addr.arpa record. My ISP tried to fix it with and alias… until I found this wrong entry.

Is YOUR dns reverse resolution set correctly? Wouldn’t it be funny if they were blocking you because you fail what is basically a SPAM test. Worth a shot.

I have same problem here – unfortunately without an answer. Try tracert to site. On the last hop, I don’t get a response as if there is a block on our domain/subnet. Telnet also doesn’t work for the same reasons. I’ve been working with someone at the site in question and he also has not found the problem.

Look out! It was a DNS bad configuration with my reverse lookup address. I was at a non-authoritative ISP for my in-addr.arpa record. My ISP tried to fix it with and alias… until I found this wrong entry.

I’m aware that this is only happening to one site in particular, but for testing purposes try disabling access control on your proxy server and see if you can connect.
