Open ALL applications in FULL a window?

By wrhale_1 ·
Where in WIN98 SE can you configure the setting to control whether a window (for any or all appli-
cations) will open as a 'full' screen window. I have already looked in Display, win.ini, system.ini, and system information. I want to be able to control which application opens a full window etc. Thanks for the help.

Open ALL applications in FULL a window?

by TheChas In reply to Open ALL applications in ...

You have looked in the 'legacy' system files. These are leftovers from Windows 3.1, and are kept to allow older programs to function.

The settings for nearly ALL program functions are stored in the system registry.

CAUTION: it is VERY possibleto completely disable your PC with improper registry edits.
It is 'best' practice to back up the registry before editing it.

Before you begin, I recommend that you read the registry guide posted at www.winguides.com
and/or read some of the O'Reilly books on the registry and your version of Windows.

The safest way to set the program window size is to edit the shortcut for each program and set the open full screen for those that you wish to force to open at full size.

Many programs have default settings that will NOT respond to any window size changes that you attempt.

Thanks again, but the shortcut contained no configurable settings. I remember seeing this at one time in the OS, but cannot remember where! Thx

Did you mean full-screen or maximized? Not trying to nit-pik but there IS a difference.

Most applications can NOT run full-screen, and I don't believe there is one system-setting to control all windows. The first answer is correct, you should change the shortcuts.

Sorry, I meant 'Maximized'. Thanks for the point.

You can change the short cut for any program to "run" maximised, (ie. occupies the whole screen, but not the "full screen" option that IE and MS Media Player have) but appart from that I don't know of any way (not that that means much either....)
