Open Office

By jardinier ·
As I am hearing so many good reports about Open Office, I would like to try it. Will it conflict with either Windows Office 97 or Windows Office 2000 if installed on the same partition?

Julian, I have not seen any problems on my W98 system with the combination of:

Office 97

Corel Word Perfect 8

Open Office 1.1

All 3 programs seem to be peacefully coexisting.

As an addendum to the main question, how about Open Office with MS Office 2000 on XP. (Just covering all my options before I install).

Been using OpenOffice for years.
I also have used at work MS Offices 97, 2000, 2002 and 2003 with OpenOffice and no problems.

I have had users that MS Office files that would not open, so I openned them in OpenOffice and saved them back a MC Office and tested them with MS Office again and they openned. Gave the files back to the users and they had no problems.

OpenOffice is about 95% compatable with MS Office.

The best thing about OpenOffice is that you can use it on Macs, Sun, Linux and Window OSs.
All you do is sent them the file and they can open it.
MS Office is different, it has a hard time going between the differnet OSs.

Good Luck

My thanks to you all. I will give Open Office a try. And thanks especially to glyall, as I have two Macs and would like to make more use of them.
