Opening another user's mailbox

By shekkieboy ·
How do you get another user's mailbox to open? All I want to do is share contacts and the calendar, which I can do, but now in the folder list view it shows the other user's mailbox with a plus sign, but it won't expand. It says unable to show folders. What's up with that? I can go to file>open another user's...>and then open their contacts and calendar, but it would be easier if I could just expand their mailbox and click on the calendar and/or contacts. I hope this scenario makes sense... Please help. Thanks.

Sounds like you do not have permission for their mailbox.

They need to grant that permission specifically for the mailbox (Tools --> Options --> Delegates --> calander (already works) --> but Mailbox is probably "none" on their computer.
Have them set the permissions for Mailbox in their Outlook and you should be fine.

Actually, the label should have been "Inbox" -- not "Mailbox"

Well, wouldn't that give the user rights to view mail in their inbox? I don't want that. Funny thing is, I duplicated all the settings from Delagates that another person had set up, and they can expand the mailbox from folder views... I dunno, this is weird.

When you switch to folder list view, you see "Mailbox - Username" on your list. When you expand that, it shows inbox, calendar, contacts, etc. This is how it is supossed to work. When I try to expand, it says uable to view folders. But, I can open open up the contacts and calendar (which is what i have it set to in Delegates) if I go to them the long way. I do not want to allow viewing of email in the inbox, or any box for that matter.

Just assign relevant permissions to the users mailbox and the folders you need to access.

go to view folder list on the user you want to share out. right click on the calendar and choose properties and then permissions and add yourself or anyone else. then set up as you described before.

Thanks to all. I see what you mean, I guess I just thought that it would grant full access or something. Thanks again, you rock.
