Operation "Liberate Iraqi Oil" has backfired ...

and backfired badly. This is not surprising as the full reasons for the invasion were never stated (What? Do you mean to tell me that Iraq is actually sitting on one of the largest oil fields in the world? Well, I had no idea). There were deeper underlying reasons related to the value of various currencies, and existing and upcoming oil contracts with Iraq. This I am sure of, but cannot elaborate because I frankly don't understand the intricacies of these matters.

And the "Intelligence" provided to justify the invasion turned out to be anything but intelligent.

At least before the non UN sanctioned invasion the people of Iraq knew who the bad guy was: Saddam Hussein. Now it seems that killing and sabotage are running rampant, and quite out of control, with just about everyone being a potential target.

And yet my intelligence was insulted as I watched on the news last night a clip of George Bush standing on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, on May 1, announcing with his usual silly, self-righteous grin, that the main stage of the invasion had been successful. So successful, in fact, that more US military personnel have died in Iraq since that date, than before that date.

Now patriotism is one thing, but blind faith in a stupid decision is quite another.

Can any American now say with a straight face that: "The invasion of Iraq was fully justified and the short-term and long-term goals will be achieved in the foreseeable future."
