Oracle - Dev 2k and the future?

By lakshman ·
I have 4 years of rich experience in development of Oracle - Dev.2000, plsql and packages.
I want to know what I should learn now to keep me live in IT market. Though I want to learn Java, now-a-days, I have been hearing that Java will be replaced by C#.

I would like to know which IT tool is going to be dominating the future application development.

Oracle - Dev 2k and the future?

I'm working in Internet ASP. According to my point of view, you have two options:
A Internet-oriented script language (Ej:PHP)or A Object-oriented language (Ej:JAVA).

I would choice JAVA, after JSP and EJBs. Recently Oracle launch iAS and it is a good point of arrival.

Oracle - Dev 2k and the future?

If what you have now doesnt keep you alive in the market I would say that you are in a pretty odd market. As for the C# thing replacing java ... the only folks that I have seen say this have at least a passing interest in microsoft technology over any other.
I would pick up some experience in something like Forte and get a gig or two doing some good design work (Oracle Designer is a pretty slick tool... despite some weirdness). Oracle is making an active effort to port to Linux so you can leverage your solid experience on the standard stuff so far with the ability to say "yeah, I can do that" when asked to put together a linux app.

Just bear in mind that this comes from someone who started out working with oracle on Mainframes about 14 years ago and have managed to keep my career going through that time just by doing the odd "neat thing" while keeping Oracle development and design my main activity.

Knowledge is two-fold, and consists not only in an affirmation of what is true, but in the negation of that which is false.
