Oracle under UNIX vs. Windows

Oracle under UNIX vs. Windows
I heard that Oracle under UNIX is better than Oracle under Windows. Why ?
I'm talking about DB applications, I'm working on a project that involves huge databases and it looks that Access is not enough anymore and I'm thinking to use Oracle but I want to make sure that there is a reason to start with UNIX to.

Thanks

Oracle under UNIX vs. Windows

by Computechie In reply to Oracle under UNIX vs. Win ...

Oracle is better under UNIX because of it's more efficient OS design, and it's more robust networking. We use a HP 9000 with HP-UX to run our Oracle DB, I'd never dream of using a Windows machine to serve this because of the high load on the machineand OS that databases tend to pose. I would highly recommend using Oracle on a Solaris or BSD UNIX variant (like FreeBSD), you'll be more than pleased with the ease of use, stablility, and the lower amount of administration your going to have to be involved in. Hope this helps you out.

Oracle under UNIX vs. Windows

What is BSD ? Sorry for the maybe "stupid" answer but UNIX is one of the things I don't handle although I would like to and this can be the right time to start with it. What exactly can hapen if I'm using Oracle on Windows OS ? Hi processor usage, lockings and things like that ?

Thanks for your help,
