Oracle8 connection manager

by ahicks In reply to Oracle8 connection manage ...

Hope I can get this in the space alloted.
From my networks class notes (Not used the product myself).

On the client:

Set up the TNSNAMES.ORA as usual and add
SOURCE_ROUTE=YES for the service using connection manager)

example:

tst8= (DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS =
(PROTOCOL= TCP )
(HOST = WWED141-SUN)
(PORT = 1610)
)
(ADDRESS =
(PROTOCOL = SPX)
(SERVICE = ORASRVC1)
)
(CONNECT_DATA= (SID = TST8 )
(SOURCE_ROUTE = YES)
)
)
note: TCP and SPX need to be on the node connection manager is running.

On the middle tier:

CMAN.ORA has 3 sections:

listening address for connection manager
cman profile
cman rules

example:
cman.ora
cman = (ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS =
(PROTOCOL = TCP )
(HOST = WWED151-SUN)
(PORT = 1610)))
cman_rules = (RULES_LIST =
(RULE = (SRC = WWED15-PC)

As an additional note. Oracle 8.0.4 has been desupported. You should upgrade to 8.1.6 (or 8.1.7 if out on your platform).

Besides being desupported, it was a very buggy version. I'm speaking as an ex Oracle technical support person.
