Out of office assistant

In Microsoft Outlook the Out of Office
assistant under the tools menu is greyed
out. Why. Were is this Assistant in
Outlook 2000?

You'll need to have the Exchange Server Service installed under your profile for this to work.
Choose Tool, Services and Add in the Exchange Server one.
Restart Outlook and it should be available after that.

Two things:
1> you need MS Exchange you can add this from tools>services. the reason for this is that you can use rules with the out of office assistant and you can have client/server rules(therefore the need for the exchange service)
2> make sureyou are in your inbox, the menus change according to the folder you are in, eg if you are viewing your calender you can't see the out of office assistant option on the tools menu.
