Out of Office Assistant only works once

By troncs ·
Hi all,

I am having a problem at work with our out of office messages working once and when someone sends an email to that person again, it does not work the second time.

It always works once, and that is it.

Any ideas???

Thanks

That's how it is supposed to work. Each person who sends you email gets exactly one message that you are out of the office. In your message you simply say when you will be back in the office.

Imagine the alternative where every email will be responded to. How many emails do you get in a day? How many of them do not have real email reply addresses? Each of these will generate a rejection message which your server would also respond to with an out of office message. This in turn generates a rejection message which your server also responds to. I don't think you really want to bring down your email server with this message load do you?

That is true.

We have set up a rule in the indiduals mailbox to auto reply to every email as a work around. Unfortunately some users do not actually realise this and if there is time critical info they have sent, then there is a problem.

Thanks for Clarifying it anyway. I thought there may have been a setting that I missed on the exchange server

Another reason for using the "only reply once" option is to avoid an endless email-loop that could occur if two accounts started notifying each other that their owners were out of the office.

Yup, its only supposed to do it the once and it says that in the actual dialogue box where you turn it on.

If your use any network mail packages on the servers like Surfcontrol or MIMESweeper you can configure these to automatically respond to messages more than once with a reply etc. Surfcontrol rules are very flexible.
