Out or memory or system resources

By drfox ·
I have a machine running WIndows XP SP1 and Outlook XP, when the user tries to print an email with attachments she gets an error message stating
"Out of memory or system resources. Close some windows or programs and try again"
There are no other programs open and the error only occurs when she tries to print the attachments as well as the email.
If she unticks the print attached files optiion the same emails prints with no problems.
Any help would be much appreciated.

How much space is there on the hard drive and how large is the virtual memory allocation. When a job is printed, the job is spooled to a file ready for sending to the printer. It sounds like this is causing the error. Also check you are using the latest drivers.

Machine has over 60gb free space and the page file is more than large enough, the printer drivers are upto date as of last week.

What model printer is it?

I have 2 suggestions:

1.) Update the printer driver to the latest version from the manufacturer.

2.) If that does not work use an older model printer driver. For LaserJet try using a LaserJet 5 driver. For bubble jet try using a Deskjet 550c driver.

I found this infor in the following Microsoft Tech note:

Have you tried turning off MS Word as Email Editor?

In outlook, tools, options, mail format and uncheck
Use MS office Word to edit email messages.

You should also download the updates for office
from Microsft

You stated that you have plenty of hard drive space for your VM... make sure you have increased that VM...

Also if you are getting that message check your task manager under the performance tab and see what your memory is topping out at when you do this task...

If it doesn't top out and gives that message allot earlier than than your max memory you may have bad memory.

If it does you may have some spyware or a virus that is eating up your system resources and causing that error... if this is the case I would download AVG from www.grisoft.com for free and run that sometimes other Antivirus programs won't pick up all viruses... and for your spy ware I would get Giant Antispyware they will only give you a tril version but it is the best antispyware that is on the market I have used many and it is by far the best, www.giantcompany.com

Make sure you have ebough diskspace on your Windows Partition. Windows XP Spools to Systemroot\system32\spool\....., and not to the place where you have put your pagefile or Temp directories. You do say that with 60GB there is more than enough room, but if the disk has been partitioned into a system partition and data partition, it could be your system partition is too small.
