Outbox will not clear

Hello,

A friend of mine called me last night from Florida and he had a really weird email problem. He has Outlook Express with no virii and all of the updates. When he sends an email, it stays in the Outbox and never clears. While this is going on I am getting that message repeatedly like every second or so. So the email won't go away and his screen still shows the sending bar...because it is like mass mailing that one email. Now when he goes on to his son's OE account he sends one email fine. What is the problem here? If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

so *that's* how you spell virii.
this problem is not uncommon. the outlook express mail database has become corrupt. easy way to fix it is to start another identity...export the addresses and messages first, then you can import them into the new identity...

I would rather try:
1: go to control panel, add remove program, IE and do a repair.
2: upgrade to IE 6 sp1 and all the patches, see if that solves the problem.
3 then create a new account in IE. ( and copy the old emails, etc)

Description: You may get this error when you type a new email message.
Solution: You have a corrupted Database Cache file, in the current Identity or the Internet Preferences file is damaged. There are two ways round this; a) quit out of Outlook Express, then bin the Database Cache file, relaunch Outlook again, a new Database Cache file will be created, or, b) create a new identity, and COPY the Messages*, Database*, Mailing Lists, Preferences, Rules, Schedules, Signatures files from the old identity into the new identity, replacing the newer ones already in there. Open Outlook Express again, and make sure you are satisfied that the emails, addresses etc. are all there, then bin the old Identity folder.
Another reason why this error occurs is because the Internet Preferences file is corrupt. The only way round this problem is to bin the file (in the System Folder > Preferences), and reload the Internet control panel, then re-enter the information again.
*These two files are THE most important ones to copy over, as they contain your emails and addressbook contacts.
