Outlook 2000 Restore

By owdjudy ·
I have a user who had to reload Windows 2000 on his PC. Before the reload we backed up everything to a CD, including outlook.pst and archive.pst. Once everything was reloaded he tried to restore his outlook files from the CD. Everything after March 2002 was lost. Is there anyway to recover the emails that were after that date? We had searched the hard drive for all .pst files and there was only the 2 we backed up. How could there not be anything after March 2002?

Three possibilities:
1. He is accessing an Exchange server and delivery was changed to the Exchange mailbox.
2. There is/was another .pst file floating around somewhere, maybe on a mapped share (although you said you searched.
3. The .pst file is corrupt (although you should have at least received an error if this was the case).

You can try running the Inbox Repair Tool (also known as ScanPST) on the .pst file to try and recover the other stuff. ScanPST is found on your harddrive (once Office is loaded) in C:\program files\common files\system\mapi\1033\NT\SCANPST.exe. Depending on the size of the .pst file, this could take a while.

Hope this helps.
