Outlook 2000 won’t close

I open and use outlook fine but when I close outlook the box pops up saying “Outlook is closing” but it never does. The program has not crashed, it seems to be hung waiting for something in the background. I have a few of these win98’s having the same problem. I’ve even formatted one pc. and reinstalled the programs and it still happens.
