Outlook 2002 won't open files named document.tiff

By BackWoods Annie ·
Outlook 2002 won't open files named document.tiff unable to save it, print it, or open it. The error reads: "Can't
create file: Document.tif. Right-click the folder you want to create the file
in, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions
for the folder."
Can open other .tiff files, if renamed and sent back can be opened. Have tried opening with irfan view and Windows Picture and fax viewer same issue. Have ran a detect and repair on Office XP SP3 and restored defaults - same issue

The fix

This has happened to me several times. What you need to do is find the OLK folder for the user. Depending on the operating system, version of Outlook AND user logged in, the OLK temporary folder will be created in a different spot. To find where it?s been created, open the Windows registry using regedit32.exe and use the MAP below:
Outlook 97 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Outlook\Security
Outlook 98 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.5\Outlook\Security
Outlook 2000 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Security
Outlook 2002/XP HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Security
Outlook 2003 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security
Outlook 2007 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Security

Go into this folder and search for document. Delete all files called document. It probably starts with document(1).tiff through document(99).tiff. This will fix the problem. Also would suggest searching other file types and deleting them if there are 99. What happens it Outlook is trying to create a file Document(1).tiff that already exists. Instead of saying there is already a file with that name it gives you a goofy permissions error. This is a "bug" with 2k+.
