      Is this a legal copy of Outlook? Part of Office 2003?

      If so, sounds like you need to reinstall, or run a repair from the CD.

      Check your fonts in the Windows/fonts folder.
      Both Outlook and Notepad give you options for changing font and color of text.

      Had the same problem with Outlook 2003 here. Had to change a setting:

      From Tools==>Options==>Mail Format==>
      Then check “Compose in this message format” that HTML is selected. If Plain Text selected, then you CANNOT change font or add color to text.

      Hope this helps!

      Have a most excellent day!

      Changing fonts is not an option unless you have selected HTML as the formatting option for new mail.

      Click Tools / Options / Mail Format

      Now select HTML or Rich Text Format in the box that says, “Compose in this message format”

      You will now have the ability to change the font, including choosing color.

      In the same area is a button for choosing a signature. Click it and then click NEW. Give it a name, be sure to choose your own font and color when creating it.

      Voila! You’re done!
