Outlook 2007 (Not Responding)

By vincegp ·
Things have been going well for 8 months now,
suddenly this morning Outlook 2007 stops
responding just about eveytime I try and open
or reply to an email. Screen goes hazy white,
freezes, taskbar states it stopped Responding,
and then after a while it "unfreezes" I finish
the reply, start a new email and this process
repeats! Any idea? Microsoft has nothing for
me on this.

Server problems?

by ThumbsUp2 In reply to Outlook 2007 (Not Respond ...

If Outlook is having difficulties connecting to the server, it will appear to freeze temporarily, then unfreeze when it finally connects.

What does the status bar show when the freeze appears? Does it say "connected" or "trying to connect"?

Is this on an Exchange server or just POP email?

Outlook (Not Responding)

by vincegp In reply to Server problems?

Nope, plain old pop through my home adsl.
This happened about 2 years ago and I
eventually formatted my laptop and
reinstalled everything to get rid of it -
just don't feel like formatting now, too much

What has changed then?

Look at what else is running in the background. For example, if the system is trying to download/install updates, things (including Outlook) will appear to freeze temporarily. In this case, it's not a program freeze, it's the system devoting resources to something else. When it's free, Outlook runs again.

So, look at what is running in the background and see what might be utilizing the system resources.
