I'm trying to copy all the information in Microsoft Outlook 2000 SR-1 in one computer to the same program on another. I thought Outlooks address book had the extension of .pab but, I can't seem to locate it. Even with a search of *.pab. How can I copy the address book, calendar, and settings to the new computer? Thanks in advance for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

What ver. Windows?

On mine (Win2k, Outlook 2000 SR1) it is found under Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\Administrator.wab

I have no other users set up on this machine, so I can't really say on anything other than Admin. Hope it helps.

(BTW if you didn't know, the .pst file IS still the same)

Actually, by default, all Outlook settings in Win2K and WinXP are saved in C:\Documents and Settings\<user profile name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.

The vast majority of settings are contained in the .pst file. A .pab file may or may not exist. If the Personal Address Book service was not installed, it won't exist. If a .pab file existed from a previous version of Outlook, Outlook versions 2000 or later will actually ask you if you want to combine the Personal Address Book with the Contacts folder contained in the .pst file. In later versions of Outlook, the Contacts folder is the default Address book.

There are several ways to make a copy of your Microsoft Outlook? e-mail messages, contacts, appointments, tasks, notes, and journal entries. There's Personal Folders Backup, exporting, archiving, copying your personal folders (.pst) file, and Net Folders. (If you use Microsoft Exchange Server you can also use offline folders to make a copy of your folders.) How can you tell which feature will do what you want to do? Here's a quick overview of all these features, to help you choose.

First, you need to determine whether you want to make a copy of all or some of your Outlook data and set it aside (backup) or work with Outlook files on two or more computers and keep the contents of corresponding files on each computer identical (synchronization). Use backup if you want to make a copy of a file to use in case the original file becomes damaged. Use synchronization if you want to work on two or more computers, such as on desktop computers at home and at work, or on a desktop computer and on a laptop computer.

All of your Outlook folders are stored in one file, called a personal folders file. It has the file extension .pst and is commonly called a .pst file. It appears in your Folder List and is usually named Internet Folders or Personal Folders. (You might also have a .pst file for archiving, named Archive Folders.) But, if you have a Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox, your Outlook data is stored on the server and you won't have a .pst file.

There are two ways you can keep the contents of two or more personal folders (.pst) files identical.

Offline folders (requires Microsoft Exchange Server)

The offline folders feature lets you take a folder from a network location, work with the contents of the folder while not connected to the network, and then automatically synchronize the corresponding network folder to make its contents identical. For example, if you're connected to a Microsoft? Exchange Server mailbox at work, and you also want to work with your Outlook? data on the road or at home, use offline folders. Another example of when to use offline folders is when the network or e-mail delivery service is down or when you are frequently in and out of your office. And offline folders can be compacted to save space on your computer.

Net Folders

Net Folders are Outlook folders that automatically share information from your computer across the Internet. Updated information is automatically sent from your computer to other computers via e-mail, keeping the contents of the folders you choose synchronized on all the computers. For example, if you have an e-mail account at home that is different from your account at work, use Net Folders to share folders between your office and home accounts. Some folders, such as Inbox, Outbox, Microsoft Exchange Server public folders, and offline folders cannot be shared by using Net Folders.

1. Click over File Menu then choose Import & Export
2. Choose Export to a File -- press Next Button
3. Choose Personal Folder File (.pst) ---- Press Next Button
4. Click over Personal Folder ( Note: When + sign came in left side of Personal Folder)
5. Click over Include SubFloders Check Box Then Press Next Button.
6. Then Browse Where you will save your Outlook Backup. (Note: In Option Field ? Choose Replace Duplicates with item exported.)
7. Then Click on Finish Button.


1. Click over File Menu then choose Import & Export.
2. Choose Import another program or files. ---- Press Next Button
3. Choose Personal Folder File (.pst) ---- Press Next Button
4. Browse for your outlook backup file. . (Note: In Option Field ? Choose Replace Duplicates with item imported.)
5. Then Click on Finish Button.
After export all that item take a floppy if the .pst file is less than 1.44mb otherwise take a CDR/RW write the backup files in there.
For backup your account settings...


1. Go to Tools menu - - - - -Choose Account.
2. Click over Mail Tab.
3. Press Export Button
4. Browse wher you will save your exported file.
5. Then press OK / Finish button.


6. Go to Tools menu - - - - -Choose Account.
7. Click over Mail Tab.
8. Press Import Button
9. Browse the exported file. (.iaf)
10. Then press OK / Finish button.
