Outlook and NEW Xp

By shockenyall ·
Received a new laptop with XP already installed. Installed OL and put the new pc in place of the old WIN 98 Pc. Assumed OL would see the old mail box and data however it does not. I get new mail but can't see the old mail. Would like to understand why and how to avoid as I need to repeat this process. As well as get old mail from WIN 98 to the new XP. WIN NT NOS

As for Web Based mail, it should be in your online account.

If you were viewing AOL mail with Outlook in the old PC, once you retrieve your mail it is downloaded to your hard drive.

You can start the old PC and export your mail or even eaiser still, just forward what you want to yourself and receive/open /save it on the new laptop.

Assuming Outlook was set to delete mail from the server as it downloaded the mail, your old mail is in a .PST file on the W98 PC.

If you can connect the laptop to the W98 system you can use XP's built-in file and setting transfer wizard to retrieve your mail file.

Otherwise, copy the .PST file to a CD, and then use the import function of Outlook to import the messages.

I will suggest you to open your computer on your old computer, click on File-> import and export-> try to export in to export emails and address book. Move them to new computer and open the Outlook on the new computer and click on File-> import and Export and try to import them. If you want to have same emails in both the computers, you need to enable Leave copy on server in email programs in both the computers. Let me know if you want to enable them
