Outlook Buttons Stop Working

Using Outlook 2003 with POP and Exchange accounts. When I first start outlook everything works fine, until I switch to another program and do some work there. When I switch back to outlook, the buttons on the toolbar and the right-click menu stop responding. I can change the view, read, edit and even drag and drop items, but cannot use the buttons. This happens almost EVERY TIME I switch to outlook from another program. So I have to restart outlook many times each day, every time I wish to create or reply to a message, which is extremely frustrating.
I have waded through articles in the KB however all of them seem to describe a symptom which occurs when the user carries out a specific action within the program, rather than just leaving it for a bit. As a result I am a bit stuck. Has anyone else experienced this problem? And does anybody have any ideas to try to resolve it?

I suggest trying to do a detect and repair from the help menu. And if that doesn't help you then I would reinstall office. Good luck.

You know what, sometimes the simplest and most obvious option works. A detect and repair did indeed resolve the problem.

I believe the expression is 'DUH'!

First go to the Officeupdate page of Microsoft and run all the updates and servicepacks for office2003. In order to get some of these updates installed, you may need your original office CD, so have it handy. If that doesn't help, try getting the newest driver for your display adapter and install it. With some luck Outlook may be fine now.
