    Outlook can’t open Information Store

    I have a workstation running win98se that when the user tries to open MS Outlook it comes back with the error unable to open the information store yet i can log the user on to another workstation and configure Mail in the control panel and outlook works just fine. What gives?
    One workstation will open outlook the other will not.

      Sounds like a network problem. Are you able to see the mail server from the client that can’t get connection? From the faulty station, try to ping the mail server.

      This can also be a DNS issue too. Try checking the DNS on the faulty station to see if it is configured correctly. Hope this helps!

      Check the settings for outlook and verify that they are correct. rename the the hosts file (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc) hosts.old and reboot the machine and try. If that does not work add the Ip address into the Hosts file (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx e-mail server). I’ve seen this problem when changing exchange servers.

      I had same issue with Outlook 2003 on XP. I was using Outlook to send and recieve, earthlink mails.
      To correct the error I performed following steps and it worked.
      1) Deleted all profiles and created a new profile and configured it to open my earthink mails, by giving POp3 and SMTP details.
      2) under email properties of my profile, I created a new personal folder and applied that as my default delivery location.
