Outlook Client Downloads mail twice

By arnoldt ·
I installed an Outlook 2003 client for an existing user on a new laptop(internet version- the server is at a remote location)and it attempted to download all the mail from the Exchange 5.5 Server a second time. I had already moved the pst files from the old laptop to the new, so the download resulted in duplicate mail (I stopped the download just after it started since the user had 26K messages on the server). How can I stop the Outlook from downloading all the mail a second time?

I know this may seem too simple an answer, but have you made sure that the settings in Outlook are set to not leave a copy of messages on server?

Tools -> Email Accounts -> View or change existing accounts. Click Change button. Click the More settings(It's called something like that) button -> Go to the Advanced tab and uncheck the Leave copy of messages on server option.

Hope this helps.

Solution for outlook downloading twice for POP3

Please go throught he following link

If you remove the check box "Leave the messages in server". It woudl remove the mail from the server and move it to your PST file making you to have your machine all the time to see the email.

Also the first time after you uncheck the "leave the messages in server", its going to download all the mail that exists in your server and then delete them in the mail server
