Outlook Express 5/6

I know this is not directly an office product but, I thought it would be close enough.

I work for an ISP and we recently have been coming into a problem with outlook express 5/6.

The problem is that our users are not able to delete their messages out of their inbox's?????
They get an error message that says

***ERROR unable to delete file***

I have tried all the methods that I can think of in order to delete the messages, but I still remain unsucessful.

I'm not sure what would cause this, but latley it has been becoming a common problem. I have everyone updated to ver. 6, doesn't fix. Reboot, same thing. I'm not sure if somehow the .dbx files some how got a read only attribute associated with them? Virus?

If anyone could please give me some insight on this issue it would not go unappreciated.

This defnitely seems like a virus problem. Have you tried scanning your system with Norton Antivirus?. There is an option in Norton (Other antivirus software also should have the facility, but I trust Norton because antivirus updates are available almost every week), which automatically scans each email as it is downloaded into the client's system.
However this automatic scanning doesn't work for Hotmail accounts on Outlook Express as this uses a different system than the POP3 for downloadingemail. Advise users to avoiding using Hotmail accounts on their Outlook Express
