Start by un-installing MSN instant messenger.

Starting with version 6, Micorosoft assummed that anyone who went on-line would want to use MSN instant messenger all the time.

With MSN installed, you cannot do anything on-line unless it is open and running.

Next:
Run Sytem File Checker from the run box (sfc) and see if you have any corrupt or out of date system files.

System File Checker:

If SFC finds a file that is an older version or corrupt, it will ask you if you want to replace it with the one from your Windows CD.

Also read ".dll's, What are they?" at; www.easydesksoftware.com, it will explain in detail how to tell which version is actually older or newer and if you need to replace them or not....But all corrupt files need replacing as they don't work if corrupted. Always best to replace those files directly from the original disk via extraction & replacement. That is ruling out a file that has been replaced due to a Win Update critical security update of course, this is where file replacement in Windowsgets real tricky. DLL's usually come in a perfectly matched set(s) that work together, and mismatched replacements cause those dreaded BSD's and illegal messages. (OS degradation by another name).

Good Luck.

Quick easy fix for most OE issues with corruption is to have the app closed. Do a find for all *.dbx files. When you find them delete all the files found. This should only bring up a folders.dbx,outbox.dbx,and a inbox.dbx files for each of your identities with a dbx for newsgroups if you have it setup. Warning though that doing this will cause the loss of address books, drafts, e-mails, and anything else stores in the oe program. If you don't mine losing it this should resolve the issue.
