Outlook express hangs

By hunter ·
On an old Windows 95B PC. I can sometimes send and receive email but machine will hang while I type a new message or open one of the local folders. The machine has after dark screen saver and some other 3rd party screen savers. It also has InoculatePE Antivirus and Norton utilities.

With all of those 'active' agents runing I assume you have more than 16mb of memory. I recommend turning 'off' all unnecessary agents and give it a try. If it works then activate one by one until it breaks again. (leave after dark for last).

Alsocheck for and delete any TMP files. These usually remain after a system has been uncleanly shutdown.

Ensure that you have enough drive space available for the swap file to use.

Last resort try re-installing Win95B and then reinstall only those application which are necessary. There may be remenants of an application long ago removed which left behind incompatible DLLs and/or bad registry entries.

Upgrade your system to win98 atleast. or If you don't want to upgrade the os...clear your temp file, remove un neccessary background processes.

You can disable startup programs by typing msconfig in "Run". Disable all uneccessary programs. Alwaysclear your temp internet files and temp folder.
