Outlook express hangs

On an old Windows 95B PC. I can sometimes send and receive email but machine will hang while I type a new message or open one of the local folders. The machine has after dark screen saver and some other 3rd party screen savers. It also has InoculatePE Antivirus and Norton utilities.
