Outlook Express reboots computer

By rjgould9r ·
One of the computers on the network reboots every time Outlook Express launches and tries to access the e-mail server. I've run AVG7 and Trend Micro's on line virus scan. Nothing shows. Yesterday iI ran a-2,spybot and adaware. Got nothing there either. Anybody know of a worm or trojan that does this?

Could just be corruption

by gralfus In reply to Outlook Express reboots c ...

I would get rid of old temp files, defrag the drive, and if needed reinstall Outlook Express (usually packaged with Internet Explorer). Typically, trojans and such would prefer that your email app be open, so it is unlikely that they would close it (at least on purpose).

corrupt mail message

by JamesRL In reply to Outlook Express reboots c ...

I once had an email message that was corrupt cause the same effect - I had preview on, and everytime I opened Outlook it would crash and take the OS down with it.

I tried all of the mailbox recovery tools thinking the problem was with the whole file. Then I tried to delete the message before it showed up in preview, and everything then worked fine.

Found something

by rjgould9r In reply to Outlook Express reboots c ...

I have found an executable called NeroASM.exe running as a service. Its in the run and run services sections of the registry. When it is running I can't use IE. I also can't find it on the internet at all. Any ideas of what it might be?
