Outlook how to change the "from" line

By mdlarue ·
When I send an e-mail, the e-mail address that appears in the "from" line is incorrect. It is correct in my e-mail accounts preferences. I cannot find a way to change this. The form must pick up the information from some place. I can't find it in the registery either. Outlook 2003, Win2000 sp4. Any hints?

YOu can get a pretty quick and accurate answer if you post in the Technical Q&A forum.

ON another note, and not I am not trying to point a finger or anything, can I ask what made you post to the Discussions forum?

Was it the navigation layout?

Was it the name?

Was it easier than going through selecting a topic and awarding points?

They have been looking for feedback for a wihle to try and improve site design, your input would be valued.

THx, good luck.

But while you're figiruing out the site layout...

In Outlook 2003, open the Email account properties, The field marked "Your Name" is where the from line is derived. If this still doesn't resolve the issue, try deleting the Outlook profile and creating a new one.

To delete the profile, on the desktop, right-click the Outlook icon, click properties, and select the "Show Profiles" button. Delete this profile and create a new one.

Hope this helps.

Found the problem

by mdlarue In reply to But while you're figiruin ...

I had already worked with the email accounts. Hated to delete the profile because I had so much to be reset. I have numerous email accounts but had only 4 set up in Outlook. None of those accounts are with my ISP.

This is what happened. I assumed that my outgoing mail would go through my default smtp server. However, if that server rejects the mail, the outgoing mail goes to the next smtp server in the account list and continues to do so until it finds one that accepts the mail. The information in the "From" line of the message comes from the account that ends up sending the mail. Usually, all the smtp servers will accept mail so it is not a problem but I had one that would not and it was my default account.

Thanks for leading me in the right direction.
