Outlook keeps "installing"; won't repair

By mustangkilla ·
For about 7-10 days, Outlook 2002 has been acting awful odd- every time it gets opened, it acts as if you just installed it- going through the "preparing Outlook for use" dialog, etc. Can still send/receive mail- but I cannot update it nor can I repair or reinstall Outlook- or Office 2002 Pro for that matter. I ran a reg scan and it came up clean and I ran 2 different virus scans (McAfee and Panda online)- no dice there. Short of making pst's and then uninstall/reinstall- ideas? I have all Office 2002 updates less the junk mail update- which, ironically enough, is when I ran into this issue.

Sounds llike maybe a corrupt user profile to me. Since Outlook and Office settings are based per user, I would try a different user account and see if the problem persists.

Yes, it definitely sounds like a corrupted user profile. If that doesn't work, you may have to purchase a newer version of Office since you can't reinstall (I assume that means you don't have the disc).

Check the user profile rights.
Sounds like you dont have Admin rights.

If the PC is joined to a Domain, it still needs local admin rights, Start Control panel, user accounts.
