Outlook mucks up outlook express

By hrcsort-xp ·
Having recently moved to Windows XP - I set up Outlook express under my user - set up my identities - imported all my folders and contact lists - everything was fine. I have one email account which needs to use Outlook. When I set up outlook it imported all my email addresses from my address book and OE no longer had any contacts [in some of the identities].

Any attempt to re-import my contacts does not seem to work. My .wab file under folder 'address book' looks fine with a section for each identity - but it is not fine under OE.

Has Outlok switched OE to use a diferent address book - if so how do I switch it back?

Is it possible to delete the Outlook feature from my user? - I think that I want to set this up seperately under a new user.

PS Why is microsoft software so difficult to use?

Outlook Express is a light version of Outlook. Since the .PAB is used as the mail extension in both programs, I am not sure that you can convert back.

You can un-install Outlook from the client in the Control Panel with Add/Remove programs.

It isn't that the programs are so hard to use as there are a lightweight basic freebie version and the full-blown commercial strength edition of the same program.

Thanks for your response. I must have phrased my question in a misleading manner. Sorry about that.

Here is a bit more information - I understood that OE used the .wab file under the address book folder. It certainly did do until I used Outlook. I can look at this address book and it is correct. It seems that Outlook has hi-jacked OE and is making it use a different file. The question was 'Can I make OE revert to the correct address book?'.

I would not say that OE is free - it is part of Windows which you have to pay for.

The second part of the question was 'How do I disable Outlook in my user' - The obvious way to do this is to set up another user - move all my data to the new user, delete the original one and all will be well. I can set up Outlook in a seperate user which is what I should have done in the first place! I am sure there ought to be a simplier way.

Thanks

Just for further information. I have added a contact to the Outlook Express address book. I checked the .wab file in folder "address book" [which outlook express is supposed to be using] and this does not contain the new contact - in fact the date last modified is several days ago. All this goes to prove that using Outlook has diverted my outlook express to some other address book!
