Outlook not sending complete messages

By dburton ·
I have a few users in my 30 client network getting the first screen of an email (Outlook 2000) completely and then nothing else. We are running Small Business Server 2000 with a mix of W2K Pro and W98 clients. This problem isn't consistent. Sometimes the whole message goes through just fine. Any ideas of why it's happening and how to correct it will be appreciated.

We also use outlook express and have the same problems at times. I believe that it is a protection setting though. Our company has protection settings to filter out possible email viruses. They have gotten more strict since our cooperate email address book was somehow stolen and used to send out viruses corperate wide. If your outlook is setup not to allow certain file attachments and/or scripts do to an email firewall, then this would happen, but it isn't necessarely a bad thing, but if there is a firewall set up for it, or you have setup for it to block emails with certain attachments, you may want to change the extensions. IE, ours blocks all pif, mpeg, exe, etc.... files.

So is this problem with incoming mail to these peoples computers that they receive, or outgoing that they send? I mean is it stuff that they send out that isn't all there when people open the email, or stuff they get from others that isn't all there when they open it?

Thanks for the reply. I thought of that, too. However, the problem only happens on a few computers, it isn't restricted to only w2k or w98 clients - both have this problem, it's intermittent/inconsistent and the emails haven't contained any attachments. They're usually text messages. The only other consistent thing I noticed is that it's only on interoffice correspondence - mail from outside seems to come through entirely. Any other ideas?

I added a comment to my suggestion, but I also wanted to ask if you had tried unloading outlook 2000 on these few computers and rebooting computer and reloading it? Sometimes it can be something they picked up via a virus that has corrupted a certain file or files that is causing the problem. We ran into that recently as well. None of the virus scan programs found the virus either, we ended up finding one with the free scan from www.pccillin.com (found it on 5 computers in all).
